Summer
is officially here, so I hope that wherever you are you are
feeling the warmth of the sun on your face.
We rain
forest types need to grab hold of every spare ray we can and
for that reason I am particularly appreciative of the time
it takes you to sit inside, at the computer, to read my newsletter.
So, in appreciation, I am offering newsletter recipients an
opportunity to host a free lunch
and learn at your business, club or organization. These
Money Coaching seminars are a powerful first step for anyone
wanting to gain control of their finances.
I will be offering these complimentary sessions to groups
of 10 or more for a limited time only, so book yours early!
To host
a lunch
and learn in your office email
me with your preferred date, book a board room, a lunch
room, or the sunniest spot in the office and invite your colleagues
to a solid hour of valuable, down-to-earth advice and information
on building the life you want with the money you have.
And feel
free to cool things down with ice tea and popsicles because
remember, talking money doesn’t have to be stuffy.

If
you are anything like me, summer comes and your mind is filled
with trips to the islands, drinks on a popular patio with
friends and of course a new swimsuit, picnic basket and an
entire line of skin care products for the beach. And when
you are enjoying such simple and natural pleasures there’s
no need to worry about money right?
How many
of you are still paying for last summer’s adventures?
How many can envision the adventures that lie ahead but can’t
see the money in the bank to pay for them? If this sounds
familiar, come to my next coffee
talk Getting Out
and Staying Out of Debt because it’s time
to put a plan into place to have the summer you want with
the money you have.
If you
have made it to the threshold of summer debt free, reward
yourself - not by spending money but by saving it! You know
I’m a fan of little designated savings pots; in a bank,
in a jar, save for summers near and far. Use the enthusiasm
you are feeling right now about the luminous season to start
a summer fun savings plan. Give the account a fun name or
tape a fabulous picture with a sunny scene to a jar and you
will be pleased to see it, and pay into it all year long.

I now have a clearer picture of my financial position,
I feel motivated and confident that I can achieve my goals.

| Change
the Way You Think About Savings |
|

Rethink
the meanings of incentive and reward. Instead
of buying yourself a new pair of trainers as an incentive
to start jogging, think of summer as the incentive and
the trainers as the reward. If you actually do jog every
sunny day from here to September you’ll have earned
those new trainers! You’ll have three months to
save for them, they’ll likely be on sale and they’ll
be just like new next summer.

Think globally eat locally.
I love Italian cooking and roasted red peppers
are a favorite. Instead of the usual $4 or even $5 a
pound for the imports in the winter, at this time of
year you can often find locally grown red peppers, as
sweet as can be, for as little as $1 a pound. Roast
your own on the BBQ, save some in sealers and you can
enjoy the sweet taste of local savings throughout the
year. Next will be the berries, then the peaches, mmmmm.

Don’t spend money to save
face. Some people feel the need to go out of
town to justify taking down-time. Lots of us have difficulty
saying “no” to the boss, the family or the
friends but it isn’t really the best reason to
spend hundreds (or thousands) on accommodation and travel.
If you need down time this summer, but can’t afford
a trip, don’t go into debt to get away. Book your
time off at work, turn off your cell phone, think of
your home as the most personalized resort and do what
millions of people do each summer – take a vacation
in Vancouver. I’ll see you there.
